Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown!
Love Sudoku and crave a competitive edge? Battle of Sudoku lets you pit your skills against other players or teams. The classic goal remains: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each row, column, and 3x3 subgrid contains all numbers from 1 to 9.
Before diving in, choose your difficulty (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest). This sets the initial numbers, providing a shared starting point for all players. Everyone receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
The game offers two modes, configurable in the options:
- Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: Each correctly placed number is visible to all players. Only the first player to correctly place a number earns points for that position.
- Hide Opponent's Correct Numbers: Correct numbers are hidden from other players, allowing for multiple players to potentially earn points for the same number.
Time-Outs:
Incorrect entries result in a time-out, preventing that player from making further moves while others continue. The time-out duration is customizable (default: 30 seconds).
Scoring:
Correct numbers earn points; the amount depends on the difficulty level – harder puzzles yield more points per correct number. Incorrect entries deduct half the points you would have gained for a correct placement.
Winning the Game:
The game concludes when the puzzle is completely solved. The player with the highest score wins. If "Show Opponent's Correct Numbers" is disabled, the game ends when one player solves it; however, this doesn't grant extra points, meaning other players can still win by making fewer mistakes.
Team Play vs. Individual Play:
Team mode allows two teams to compete. Players select their team (1 or 2) upon joining; a minimum of two players per team is required. Points are tallied for the team, and notes/filled colors are shared among teammates, facilitating collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar under the puzzle offers helpful tools:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares as potential candidates. Selecting a number already present removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares (including solved ones).
