This article introduces Sloword, a mobile application featuring scanwords and crosswords. The app offers a modern take on crossword puzzles, boasting a unique collection of Russian scanwords known for their literary, humorous, and culturally relevant questions. Unlike typical crosswords, these puzzles incorporate contemporary events and showcase the richness of the Russian language.

The app provides a diverse range of scanwords, varying in difficulty and incorporating elements like photographs and different question styles. It features a regular release schedule, with a new issue (containing 20 scanwords) published every Friday. Users receive a weekly notification (if enabled) reminding them of the new release. The app allows for individual magazine downloads or bulk downloads of the entire annual collection, which occupies approximately 50MB of storage. Offline puzzle solving is possible once the scanwords are downloaded.

Sloword is free to use, with advertising supporting the app. This advertising is limited to a single banner per page and one interstitial ad before each puzzle. The advertising does not disrupt the puzzle-solving process. Furthermore, users can earn free hints by watching advertiser videos. Alternatively, users can choose to remove ads permanently, purchase a subscription for ad-free access and unlimited hints, or accumulate hints individually through the in-app shop.

The app's privacy policy emphasizes that it uses the standard Android advertising identifier solely for ad placement and performance analysis. Personal data association with this identifier requires explicit user consent.
