11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as the game edges closer to its release date. Amidst the excitement, the studio paused to reminisce about one of their most iconic projects, the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters takes a different route, embracing a more passionate and frequently humorous narrative. This new game focuses on the challenges faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these stark tonal differences, the developers at 11 Bit Studios highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.

Both titles center on the theme of survival, yet they explore it in unique settings. In This War of Mine, players confront the brutal realities of war in a besieged city, managing resources and surviving daily trials to keep their group alive. On the other hand, The Alters presents survival as a relentless race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the devastating effects of a sun that transforms everything into dust.

Each game challenges players to step outside their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories to gather essential resources. The primary distinction between them is the protagonists; in This War of Mine, players lead a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.

The Alters is scheduled for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative take on survival gaming.
