The cards we're revealing today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included in the larger main set. These are reprints of existing cards, now adorned with captivating art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new mechanics or unique cards like those previously shown in the Commander decks, their artwork spans the entire history of the Final Fantasy series, starting from the very first game.

Unlike the cards in the main set, the Through the Ages cards are not legal in Magic's Standard format, though they remain legal if the original card was already so. These cards essentially offer alternate art versions of existing cards. You can find them in both the premium Collector Boosters and in one out of every three regular Play Boosters, which are used for Limited events such as Draft and Sealed.

If you're planning to dive into this set, whether at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five of the six cards revealed are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige stands out as an Uncommon. This card is a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, and its inclusion could significantly influence the set's dynamics.

The Warrior of Light version of Jodah, the Unifier, is poised to become a fan favorite. Jodah is a versatile and popular Commander, and the art here is Amano's from the original Final Fantasy Japanese boxart. Similarly, Amano's iconic art for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been beautifully repurposed for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, which has seen limited reprints before.

These cards will be available physically as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're not a Magic player but a Final Fantasy enthusiast, there's plenty to be excited about. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, hinted that the design of Sephiroth on one of the cards holds a mysterious significance.
