Abyss of Dungeons: Dark and Darker Mobile's New Name Revealed

May 21,25

Krafton has taken a significant step in distancing themselves from Ironmace Studios and their ongoing legal entanglements with Nexon by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This move primarily involves a name change, along with the likely removal of specific Dungeons & Dragons-related elements, in response to the legal disputes surrounding Ironmace.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ironmace Studios is currently in a legal battle with Nexon, who accuses the studio—founded by former Nexon employees—of using trade secrets and assets developed during their tenure at Nexon to create Dark and Darker. While the validity of these claims is still under scrutiny, the lawsuit continues to unfold, prompting Krafton's recent rebranding efforts.

As we previously mentioned in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change, and now, with the official rebranding to Abyss of Dungeons, those speculations have been confirmed.

Abyss of Dungeons Mobile GameplayFortunately, the name change does not signal any alterations to the core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile was already set to diverge from its PC counterpart with a third-person perspective and other modifications, but the essence of the game remains intact.

This development might be disheartening for Ironmace's fans. However, with hopes that the legal issues will resolve soon, enthusiasts can look forward to enjoying Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC release. The upcoming soft launch on June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico adds to the anticipation.
