Since Fields of Mistria entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods has been tantalizingly marked on the town map, yet remained inaccessible—until the March 2025 update, that is! This guide reveals how to unlock this new area and locate Caldarus.

How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Unlocking the Deep Woods requires breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon's Breath spell to melt away the obstructing vines. This involves a multi-step process:

First, gather four specific items: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three are found on floors 50-59 of the mines. However, obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires a collaboration with Juniper and Balor.

To get the scroll, leave these items in the bin near Balor's wagon: 10 Silver Ingots, 10 Rubies, 10 Sapphires, and 10 Emeralds. Speak to Balor again the following day; he'll confirm the scroll's arrival.

Once you've completed the offering at the Priestess' Fire Seal altar (Floor 60), a surprising twist occurs. Instead of a simple seal-breaking, the Priestess urgently requests you leave before the scroll seals you inside! With your health depleted, calling for help summons Caldarus, who appears in human form before retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover.

He then tasks you with finding him there, granting you the Dragon's Breath spell. This spell not only clears the path to the Deep Woods but also opens up other previously inaccessible areas. Equip it from the pause menu and activate it while facing the entrance to permanently unlock the area.

How To Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus awaits within his temple in the Deep Woods, located north of the Eastern Road. Use Dragon's Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map. You'll find him in the northeast corner, beyond a stump requiring your axe to clear.

For easy access, use the Dragon Statue on your farm for fast travel to the Deep Woods (10 Essence). While you can visit Caldarus directly, remember you can also interact with him through his statue.
