"Amazon's God of War Series Greenlit for Season 2 Pre-Release"

Apr 04,25

Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series is already generating buzz, even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore has confirmed that the series is set for not one, but two seasons. Moore stepped in to lead the project following the exit of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a recent chat with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current endeavors.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, which is a major title in the gaming world. Amazon has ordered two seasons, and they've brought me on board," Moore explained. "I'm currently in the writer's room, deeply involved in the project. That's my new focus."

Moore, who admits he's not a seasoned gamer, enjoys classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."

For the God of War series, Moore is not only the showrunner but also serves as a writer and executive producer. His impressive resume includes work on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as his role as showrunner for the critically acclaimed 2000s Battlestar Galactica.

Despite the departure of some team members, Sony's Cory Barlog remains an executive producer on the project. While details are still sparse, it's confirmed that the series will be based on the 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's track record with video game adaptations, such as the successful renewals of the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising future for God of War on the streaming platform.
