Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this highly anticipated title, first revealed at Gamescom 2023, finally offers a glimpse into its world with a recently released teaser trailer. The Meaning Behind the Name Change

While the developers haven't commented on the rebranding, the name "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, echoing the meaning of the original title, "Mugen." The Chinese name further supports this thematic consistency.

The gaming community's reaction is mixed, with some questioning the decision, but overall, there's relief that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness, with some favoring the latter due to its already-shown gameplay. However, many find Ananta's visuals more captivating, despite the trailer's lack of actual gameplay.

A Curious Rebranding Strategy

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the new title. This complete social media overhaul has left many players puzzled, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have seemed a simpler solution.
