2. Brushing

The more popular method involves using a Brush, typically used for investigating suspicious sand or gravel. Brushing an Armadillo gently yields one Scute per use. In Java Edition, an unenchanted Brush with full durability can be used four times on an Armadillo, while in Bedrock Edition, it lasts for five uses before breaking. Brushes can be repaired by combining two damaged ones, and if enchanted, two can be merged at an Anvil to retain both enchantments.

A Brush can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing. Crafting a Brush requires a Feather, a Copper Ingot, and a Stick, arranged vertically down the center of the Crafting Table.
