Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Apr 25,25

The latest addition to Ubisoft’s expansive catalog of stealth-action open-world games, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. This installment transports players to 16th-century Japan, where they take control of Naoe and Yasuke. As the 14th entry in the core series, it prompts us to reflect on the entire Assassin's Creed saga, which began in 2007 with Desmond Miles and Altaïr. We want to know where you rank Shadows among its predecessors. We're focusing solely on the mainline games here, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

Below, you'll find my personal tier list, based on enjoyment of each game in the series:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the game closest to my heart. Its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters creates what I believe to be the quintessential Assassin’s Creed experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, which truly propelled the series into the spotlight. I've placed Valhalla in the A-tier, which might surprise some, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Viking-inspired combat and the Orlog minigame. Unity also sits in the A-tier; its depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too bloated or consider Assassin’s Creed 2 overrated? We invite you to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the broader IGN community.
