ASUS Xbox Handheld Images Surface Online

Images of ASUS' Xbox-branded handheld, codenamed Project Kennan, have emerged online.

As reported by 91mobiles and noted by Eurogamer, two photos of the ASUS ROG Ally 2 — one white, one black — appeared via Indonesia’s certification office, linked to a (now removed) U.S. FCC listing.

Both feature Xbox-style buttons (Y, B, A, X) instead of PlayStation or Nintendo layouts. The black version prominently shows an Xbox button, without a distinct 'X', near the thumbstick. Technical details remain sparse, leaving performance and differences between colors unclear.

Per Windows Central's Jez Corden, the devices are undergoing open testing at Microsoft’s headquarters, with a possible reveal around May 20.

Last month, ASUS Republic of Gamers’ X/Twitter teased a glimpse of an ROG Xbox controller and handheld. The official Xbox account responded playfully with a wide-eyed gif, hinting at an upcoming announcement.

This aligns with IGN’s report on Microsoft’s gaming hardware plans, including a next-gen Xbox for 2027 and an Xbox-branded handheld potentially launching in 2025.

Though this Xbox-branded handheld isn’t made by Microsoft, the company is reportedly developing its own for 2027, alongside its next-gen Xbox. Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer recently suggested a first-party Xbox handheld is years off.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X successor is reportedly in full production for a release in two years, aligning with Xbox president Sarah Bond’s claim that Microsoft is advancing rapidly on next-gen hardware, aiming for the greatest technological leap in a generation.
