Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis

Apr 24,25

The Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is one of the most intricate yet rewarding systems in the game, deeply integrated into every aspect of gameplay. From resource gathering to crafting weapons, understanding Synthesis is key to maximizing your progress. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you master this essential mechanic.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: This is conducted at an Alchemist’s altar and is essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials required for other Synthesis processes. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which you can revisit anytime for Synthesis. In areas where you can build—such as plots of land cleared of manabound zones and campsites—you can construct a Simple Altar to perform regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, this allows you to craft practical items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Also accessed via the radial menu, this is available only on specific plots of land. Although not directly labeled as Synthesis, it involves creating storage chests and wall hangings, which the game often refers to as Synthesis.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Regular Synthesis at the Alchemist’s altar is the most complex aspect of the system. Here’s how to craft, for instance, a gun staff for Yumia:

  1. Find the recipe while exploring the game world.
  2. Upgrade existing gun staff recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains.
  3. At the Alchemist’s altar, select the type of gun staff you want to create.
  4. Choose Synthesis Skills if you’ve unlocked them in the skill tree.
  5. Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core: Enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core: Improves the quality level of the completed item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core: Increases the number of Trait Crystal slots available for the item.
  6. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with resources you’ve collected.
  7. Collect mana fragments to further boost the item's quality.
  8. Complete the Synthesis process to create the item.

To craft powerful items early on, it’s crucial to unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills offer flat damage and quality boosts and allow for item duplication, conserving resources.

You can also enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. To do this, use the left or right bumper while filling the slots. Collecting mana fragments (the yellow sparkles) around each core significantly enhances the item's strength, a step you should take unless crafting a quest-specific item.

When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the specific slots, identified by a blue outline. You can organize your resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality items or focus on effects as needed.

For those who find the process too complex, the auto-Synthesis option is available after selecting Synthesis Skills. This feature allows the game to automatically create the best possible item, making it easier to progress through the game, even on Normal difficulty.

With these tips, you'll be well-equipped to leverage the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia* and enhance your gameplay experience.
