Atomfall Trailer Shows World, Survival Gameplay

Dec 11,25

The developers behind Atomfall have unveiled an extended gameplay trailer, providing an in-depth look at the game's world and core mechanics. The video showcases its distinctive retro-futuristic setting—a quarantine zone in northern England postdating a 1962 nuclear power plant incident.

Players must traverse this treacherous region, uncovering hidden truths by investigating clues and interacting with a cast of memorable characters. The protagonist, intentionally devoid of a backstory to enhance immersion, lets players shape their own identity and responses. Moving away from conventional mission structures, Atomfall promotes organic exploration, fostering a more genuine and engaging journey.

Survival hinges on traders, who facilitate barter for vital supplies since currency is worthless inside the quarantine. Scavenging resources demands caution, as threats are ever-present—hostile gangs, fanatical cultists, mutated creatures, and dangerous machinery roam the landscape. Effective inventory management is essential, with limited capacity forcing tough choices about what gear to keep. The environment is further perilous with traps and landmines.

Visually, Atomfall carries the signature style of Rebellion, offering a rich atmosphere rather than cutting-edge graphics. The open-world rendition of a devastated England is both grim and meticulously crafted. The constrained inventory system introduces strategic depth, requiring forethought about item prioritization. Upgrading equipment is possible, especially useful for enhancing melee weapons, which are frequently needed in confrontations with cultists, raiders, and mutants.

Atomfall releases on March 27th for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and will be available on Game Pass from Day One.
