Avengers: Doomsday Filming Reveals Surprising Defender's Comeback

Marvel is reportedly paying King Charles millions to film scenes for Avengers: Doomsday at Windsor Castle, a UK royal residence. Recent set photos also hint at the return of another surprising Marvel character.

Construction has started in Windsor's parkland for multiple Avengers: Doomsday sets, including one listed in planning documents as "Annie Reynolds' House." Annie is the mother of Bob Reynolds from Thunderbolts*/New Avengers, suggesting more childhood flashbacks that explore Sentry/The Void's early years.

According to The Irish Sun, a second set is called "Luke Cage's House"—a name Marvel fans haven't encountered in years. The bulletproof hero from Harlem was last seen in 2018 during the final season of his Netflix series, which shared its universe with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Cage teamed up with these characters in The Defenders, a small-screen Avengers equivalent, before Netflix canceled all Marvel shows ahead of Disney+'s launch.

Marvel is famous for its secrecy, often using codenames for productions and filming key scenes—like the funeral in Avengers: Endgame—without revealing details even to actors. While this could be a decoy, fans are speculating about Luke Cage's potential comeback and its significance.

Photos of the "Luke Cage's House" set reveal a classic rural American home painted mustard yellow. Though the location isn't Harlem, fans note the color matches the signature shade from Cage's Netflix series.

In recent years, Marvel has started reintegrating The Defenders into the MCU. Charlie Cox's Daredevil has appeared in various projects ahead of the Disney+ reboot Daredevil: Born Again, and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) will return in the next season. The Punisher, a spin-off character, is also getting a TV special and is rumored to appear alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The exact payment to King Charles for using Windsor's grounds remains undisclosed but is estimated in the millions. Crown Estates, which manages the land, often uses film revenue for upkeep and allocates a quarter of its annual profits to the King.

Could King Charles make a cameo? Unfortunately, it seems unlikely. The King is scheduled to be on holiday in Scotland at Balmoral in early August when filming is set to take place.
