Obsidian's Avowed: 60 FPS on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30 FPS

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in an interview with MinnMax. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation settles previous uncertainty regarding the Series X performance. The Xbox Series S version, however, will remain capped at 30 fps, as previously announced.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either higher frame rates or enhanced visuals—remains unclear. It's possible the 60 fps target on the Series X is the default setting.

Avowed's release date is staggered based on the edition purchased. The premium edition, priced at $89.99, grants early access starting February 13th. The standard edition ($69.99) launches on February 18th, reflecting a recent industry trend of staggered releases that has already been abandoned by some publishers, such as Ubisoft.

Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and impactful decisions. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate political intrigue, and forge alliances or rivalries, all within a rich narrative backdrop of war and conflict.

IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging dialogue, expansive freedom, and overall enjoyable gameplay, stating, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
