You'll first cross paths with Rompopolo in Chapter 2, during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields, within the Oilwell Basin. Defeating it is key to progressing your journey to Azuz City. After your first victory, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can revisit this challenging hunt as often as you like, either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or tackling the “Oilwell Basin Blast” Optional Quest.

For optimal preparation, equip water-element weapons (acquired from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest earlier in the game) and gear with fire resistance (farmed from Uth Duna or, later, Ajarakan). Arm Swipe: A double swipe easily dodged due to its limited range.
Lunge With Arm Swipe: A charging attack with an arcing swipe.
Tail Swing: A straightforward tail attack.
Poison Stream or Swipe: Rompopolo sprays poison gas either as a stream or during a charging swipe.
Oil Explosion: Rompopolo uses its tail to ignite oil pools, causing explosions beneath you.
Charged Oil Explosion: A more powerful explosion used later in the fight.

Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?
