Monster Hunter Wilds simplifies many series mechanics, minimizing the need for extensive monster tracking. However, one exception remains: the Black Flame. This guide explains how to locate it.

Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds

Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, Chapter 3, the Black Flame monster appears briefly in the Oilwell Basin before disappearing. Your mission: find and defeat it.

Leave Base Camp and head towards Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin, as shown in the map below.

Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examining them reveals the Black Flame's trail, automatically leading your scoutflies. Simply follow the green trail illuminated by the scoutflies in Zone 9, towards the large flaming crater, to locate the Black Flame.

The Black Flame (also known as Nu Udra) is a tentacled creature wielding fire-based attacks. Strategically targeting and severing a few tentacles first simplifies the fight, granting better access to its weak points and maximizing material yields.

To combat the region's intense heat, carry several Cool Drinks to prevent continuous health depletion.

That's how to find the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds. For more Monster Hunter Wilds tips and tricks, including changing your Palico's language and mastering monster capture techniques, check out The Escapist.
