Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG based on the timeless Chinese tale Journey to the West, finally arrives on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025—exactly one year following its debut on PS5 and PC.

Xbox announced the news via Twitter/X, stating: "You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong launches August 20. Pre-orders open June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has achieved blockbuster success, surpassing 25 million copies sold as of January 31, 2025. Yet its absence from Xbox Series X/S was always conspicuous, as the game was never marketed as a true exclusive.

Some sources suggested the delay was linked to a Sony exclusivity arrangement rather than technical limitations, but Fen Ji, head of developer Game Science, reportedly pointed to challenges with the Xbox Series S.

“The only console missing is Xbox,” he explained, via machine translation, “which does feel a little off—but that 10GB of shared memory is really tough to optimize without years of experience.”

Now, it seems these hurdles have been cleared, and Xbox gamers will soon be able to welcome the title into their collections.
