Capcom has subtly teased fans with a hint about Resident Evil 9 right under their noses. To celebrate reaching an impressive milestone of 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong engaging in a hushed conversation with one of gaming's most notorious villains, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by an infected horde sporting party hats as they advance towards a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador playfully strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera then zooms out to reveal Leon energetically fist-pumping in front of a rustic sign that reads "Thank you for playing."

However, when you tilt the sign on its side, the planks form the Roman numeral "IX," which represents the number 9. While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank, crucial for forming the "IX," is missing in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was added deliberately. "I know what you did here," said one astonished viewer, accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline installment in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his thoughts at the time, saying, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
