"Captain America Relaunches with Chip Zdarsky"

Jun 28,25

Marvel Comics is set to launch a brand-new monthly *Captain America* series, reimagining Steve Rogers’ journey as he emerges from suspended animation into the modern Marvel Universe. This exciting new chapter will not only explore Cap’s early days in the present era but also feature his first-ever confrontation with one of Marvel’s most formidable villains—Doctor Doom.

Announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, this fresh take on the Sentinel of Liberty will be penned by acclaimed writer Chip Zdarsky (known for *Daredevil*, *Batman*) and brought to life visually by artist Valerio Schiti (*G.O.D.S.*, *The Avengers*), with coloring by Frank D'Armata. The creative trio previously collaborated on *Marvel 2-in-One*, delivering fan-favorite storytelling and dynamic visuals that earned widespread praise.

The series opens shortly after Steve Rogers is discovered and revived in the modern age. Rejoining the U.S. Army, Captain America embarks on his first mission: teaming up with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate Latveria. There, they face a newly risen—and dangerously ambitious—young Doctor Doom. While the narrative will eventually transition to present-day continuity, the events of this initial arc will have lasting consequences throughout Zdarsky and Schiti’s run.

“I’ve been a massive *Captain America* fan for decades. I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in *Avengers: Twilight*, so getting to write the actual *Captain America* title feels like a dream!” said Zdarsky. “We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers! I’m pretty excited to get this out there in the world, especially with Valerio and Frank’s amazing art!”

He continued, “I’ve been approaching this title the way I approached my run on Daredevil—really trying to get inside Cap’s head with a grounded, human look at who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers is the best of us, and I want that to come through on every page.”

Artist Valerio Schiti shared his enthusiasm, stating, “*Captain America* is one of my all-time favorites. I'm reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after the amazing experience of *Marvel 2-In-One*, and I'm working on a story that strikes the perfect balance between heart, action, and entertainment.”

Schiti added, “Chip's script is so clever and compelling that I’m sure readers will be drawn into Steve's emotional journey. He’s a man who became the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought a war against Nazism, ‘died’ in that war, and came back to life to do his duty and fight again. That’s a lot of pressure, and if you do the math, he’s only in his late twenties in the era we’re exploring!”
