The Battle of Hulao Gate in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is a legendary encounter that tests your skills to the limit. As the final stage in Chapter 2, your mission is clear: defeat Dong Zhuo. But reaching him is no small feat and will likely take longer than any mission you've encountered so far.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Battle of Hulao Gate Guide

When the mission kicks off, head to the four enemy bases at the bottom right of the map. After capturing two, a cutscene will trigger, showing a mounted cavalry led by Zhang Liao charging towards the bases. Don't let this distract you. Continue conquering the bases, and you'll naturally take down the cavalry. Defeating Zhang Liao will reward you with the twin pike weapon, a valuable addition to your arsenal.

Once you've secured all the bases, you can launch an assault on the gate, leading to your first major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. It's a chaotic battle, but your priority should be protecting Cao Cao until he executes his Grand Tactic. This will weaken the defenses, allowing you to advance towards Hulao Gate.

Lu Bu Appears

At this critical moment, Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu to the frontline. Avoid engaging him at all costs. A one-on-one fight with Lu Bu is a surefire path to defeat. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers at the edges of the battlefield to maintain your morale, as Lu Bu's presence can severely deplete it.

Lu Bu will eventually move towards your main base to take on Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to chase him. A key strategy in *Dynasty Warriors* games is to never pursue Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to hold him off, buying you time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This sets a timer for the mission; Liu Bei's army can't hold Lu Bu indefinitely. When the game informs you that they've retreated, ensure you're close to defeating Dong Zhuo, or Lu Bu will crush Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Go After Dong Zhuo

Once Lu Bu departs, if you need to replenish your health with meat buns, quickly visit any of your conquered bases. Then, return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares for a charge, head north and west to capture additional bases. With all three squads ready to attack and your health restored, enter the commander's circle closest to you and charge into battle.

You'll face a massive army, and Dong Zhuo will unleash his Grand Tactic, hurling fireballs at you. To stop this, you must destroy the front two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, rush through the wall of soldiers blocking the catapults, and clear a path. Focus on eliminating the soldiers and officers around the catapults and the barricade to allow your troops to destroy them, ending Dong Zhuo's Grand Tactic.

As you advance, Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic. This time, you need to defeat one of his officers to halt it. Head up the right stairs, but be ready for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel her. It's challenging due to her swift combos, but defeating her will prevent being overwhelmed by both her and the officer.

With the second Grand Tactic thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo should be clear. Your forces should have enough morale to overpower his remaining troops, and Lu Bu will still be engaged with Liu Bei's forces. Dian Wei might initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your path to victory. While it might be tempting to duel Dong Zhuo, a straightforward attack is advisable, as he and his forces will be significantly weakened by now.

That's how you conquer the Battle of Hulao Gate in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. The game is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, offering you the chance to relive this epic battle and many more.
