In 2024, no film stirred as much controversy and debate as Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. From its debut at the previous year's Cannes Film Festival, this audacious and unconventional epic quickly became the focal point of both admiration and derision throughout the year. Now, the visionary director is set to bring the story to fans in a new format, as Megalopolis is slated to be released as a graphic novel.

Titled Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel, the adaptation will hit the shelves in October, courtesy of Abrams ComicArts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The graphic novel will be penned by Chris Ryall, renowned for his adaptations of works by genre giants like Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, and Clive Barker. The artwork will be crafted by Jacob Phillips, acclaimed for his contributions to Newburn and That Texas Blood.

“I was pleased to entrust the idea of a graphic novel to the capable hands of Chris Ryall, with the vision that, although inspired by my film Megalopolis, it would not be bound by it. I hoped the graphic novel would take its own unique path, with its own artists and writer, becoming a companion piece to the film rather than merely a reflection,” Coppola shared in a statement to the outlet.

“That’s precisely what Chris, Jacob Phillips, and the team at Abrams ComicArts have achieved. This reaffirms my belief that art cannot be confined but should always serve as a parallel expression, enriching the offerings we provide to our patrons, audiences, and readers.”

Megalopolis narrates the journey of a progressive architect, portrayed by Adam Driver, who is driven by a vision to construct a modern utopian city. His ambitions, however, put him at odds with the city's mayor, played by Giancarlo Esposito, who is determined to thwart his plans to transform New Rome into Megalopolis. This narrative unfolds as a contemporary Roman fable.

While the film is not yet available for streaming, it can be rented or purchased from various digital platforms where movies are sold.
