Cosmo Jarvis to Rejoin Shogun Season 2, a Decade Later

Nov 25,25

The critically acclaimed Shōgun, recipient of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is officially returning for a second season – with production plans now in motion. Cosmo Jarvis, who brilliantly portrays ship pilot John Blackthorn in the series, has confirmed his return alongside a new role as co-executive producer, FX announced in an official press release.

Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada – who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's surprise renewal (despite its original limited series designation) – has also been promoted to executive producer after serving as producer during the first season. Production is scheduled to commence in January 2026 with filming returning to Vancouver, the original shooting location.

PlayFX describes Season 2 as "an entirely original continuation" of the first season's narrative adapted from James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connective tissue between seasons:

"Season One witnessed Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battling for survival against his united enemies in the Council of Regents. The discovery of a stranded European ship brought English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) into Toranaga's orbit – whose strategic intelligence ultimately shifted the balance of power in Japan's historic civil war.

The second chapter jumps forward a decade, continuing the historically-grounded odyssey of these two men from divergent worlds whose destinies remain profoundly intertwined."

With any luck, audiences might witness new episodes of this masterpiece before 2026 concludes – though patience remains our only current option.
