Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been shelved, according to hints dropped by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. This revelation follows Kole's discussion of another canceled project, "Project Dragon," on X (formerly Twitter).

"Project Dragon" and the Unspoken Crash 5

On July 12th, Kole's X post regarding the cancellation of "Project Dragon" (a new IP, not Spyro, as he clarified) sparked speculation about a similarly fate-sealed Crash Bandicoot 5. He cryptically stated, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts."

This prediction proved accurate, with fans expressing significant disappointment at the news.

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

The cancellation news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio earlier this year, following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their debut independent title, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter of which concluded its live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. Only time will tell if this anticipated sequel will eventually be released, hopefully avoiding a prolonged wait for fans.
