Yasumi Matsuno, the visionary behind Final Fantasy Tactics, has shared heartfelt insights about the game's creation, revealing he crafted its narrative to bring light during Japan's economically bleak 90s era.

A Story for Troubled Times

As the long-anticipated Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles prepares for its 2025 release, Matsuno took to social media with a poignant message. He described offering this story anew - as relevant now with today's social divisions as it was during Japan's financial crisis.

"Nearly three decades ago," Matsuno wrote, "Japan's economic bubble burst spectacularly. Banks drowned in bad debt, companies vanished overnight, and unemployment skyrocketed. Societal progress froze. It was an age where hope seemed forbidden, where dreams carried price tags."

Timeless Themes of Struggle

He continued: "That's when I shaped Ramza's journey - a noble youth challenging an unjust caste system. I wove Delita's rise - a commoner exploiting society's fractures for personal gain. Their intertwined fates mixed loyalty and deception in equal measure."

The Remastered Experience

The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster delivers two complete editions: The original classic featuring the War of the Lions translation, plus a completely reimagined version boasting full voice acting, streamlined menus, expanded narrative elements, and enhanced visuals. Both arrive on PS5 September 30, 2025.

This announcement formed part of Sony's explosive State of Play showcase kicking off summer gaming reveals. Among dozens of titles shown were 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, Romeo is a Dead Man, and confirmation of Silent Hill f's launch window.
