Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Redemptions

Days Gone Remastered emerged as a highlight during Sony's recent State of Play showcase, yet it's stirred up a wave of discontent among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version for PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that game redemptions made through the subscription service PS Plus do not qualify for the discounted upgrade to the PS5 remaster.

It's worth noting that Days Gone was previously available on the now-defunct PS Plus Collection and as an Essential monthly game in April 2021. Consequently, PS Plus subscribers who own the game through these means must pay the full $49.99 to access the new PS5 version.

The specifics of the $10 upgrade have prompted a backlash from PS Plus subscribers, who have taken to social media to voice their frustrations. For instance, a thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is brimming with comments from subscribers expressing their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but their unwillingness to purchase the game at full price. This sentiment is echoed by users like squarejellyfish_, who noted, "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two."

Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, "They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got." Dredizzle99 added, "Yeah this seems pretty stupid. There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS Plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them."

Jackanyon95 criticized the decision, saying, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."

While some PS Plus subscribers are unsurprised by Sony's approach, citing that the company likely conducted financial analyses to support this decision, Sony is facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who label the move as "stingy" and had hoped for a more generous gesture from PlayStation.
