CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has issued a warning to players about the ongoing beta test invite scam spreading across the internet. CD Projekt Red posted on The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) on April 16 that they received reports from the community that they are being invited to a beta test for The Witcher 4, which is a scam.
The post read, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They added that if there were beta tests in the future, players would first hear about it on The Witcher’s official social media and websites.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 was officially unveiled at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the game's protagonist. This announcement stirred significant discussion within the gaming community, especially since Geralt had been the central figure in the previous three games.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the fan reactions to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber, who also enjoyed playing as Geralt, assured fans that the team is committed to making Ciri's journey compelling and worthwhile. He stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude towards fans who supported the decision to feature Ciri as the lead. He emphasized the importance of fan feedback, saying, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.
