"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

May 06,25

Corinne Busche, who served as the game director for *Dragon Age: The Veilguard* from February 2022 until its launch last year, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. Eurogamer broke the news, and IGN has reached out to EA for further comment on this development.

Since its release in October of last year, *Dragon Age: The Veilguard* has faced scrutiny over its success. Despite this, Eurogamer notes that Busche's departure will not affect the studio's operations otherwise. Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after working at Maxis on various *The Sims* projects. Her leadership was instrumental in steering *Dragon Age: The Veilguard* to completion during its tumultuous final years of development, as detailed in IGN's article, 'How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade.'

Eurogamer clarifies that Busche's exit is unrelated to the commercial performance of *Dragon Age: The Veilguard*. EA has yet to disclose whether the game's sales and revenue met or exceeded expectations. The company is set to reveal its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

BioWare has confirmed that there are no plans for *Dragon Age: The Veilguard* DLC, as the studio shifts its focus to *Mass Effect 5*. The next installment in the *Mass Effect* series has been teased over the years but has not been fully revealed yet.

In August 2023, the same month that Larian Studios released the highly successful *Baldur's Gate 3*, BioWare laid off approximately 50 employees, including longtime veteran Mary Kirby, who had been with the studio since the inception of the *Dragon Age* series. These layoffs were part of a broader internal shakeup at EA, which resulted in the company being split into sports and other divisions. Rumors circulated that BioWare might be acquired, and *Star Wars: The Old Republic* was allowed to transition to a third-party service, allowing BioWare to concentrate on *Mass Effect* and *Dragon Age*.

The journey for *Dragon Age* continued into 2024 with the reveal of *The Veilguard*. The initial reveal trailer received negative feedback, prompting the studio to release an early gameplay tease shortly after to reassure fans. The name change from *Dreadwolf* to *The Veilguard* also drew mixed reactions. However, subsequent impressions of the game were generally positive.

With Busche's departure and the shift in focus to *Mass Effect 5*, *Dragon Age* fans are left wondering if BioWare will have the opportunity to develop another sequel in the beloved series.
