Dragon Quest 12 Information to Be Revealed 'Little by Little,' Series Creator Yuji Horii Says
Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be shared incrementally, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This marks the first update since May 2024, following the announcements of the passing of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, key figures in the Dragon Quest franchise. It also comes after the departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile gaming division.
Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a period without updates had sparked fan concerns about the game's status. However, Horii's statement reassures fans that Dragon Quest XII is still actively in production.
Announced during the series' 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has reported that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million units sold.
