The iconic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has just received a significant boost with the release of the Imperium Update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. If you're a fan of this classic title that made its way to Android in 2018, you're in for a treat with a slew of enhancements and new features. Excitingly, the same update will roll out next week for the standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.

What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?

The Imperium Update integrates some of the best elements from Feral’s more recent mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Players can now enjoy three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection, which enhance command over units and make battles more precise. A simple tap and hold now lets you move your armies, agents, or fleets, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.

Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuning unit placements through tap-and-hold actions, while the Group Grid feature simplifies the management of unit groups with a user-friendly collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode introduces the ability for ranged units to seamlessly switch to close combat when the situation demands it.

A major highlight of the update is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically reduces game speed when issuing complex orders, enhancing strategic decision-making. Additionally, for the first time, Android (and iPad) players can utilize keyboard and mouse support for a more desktop-like experience.

The minimap in ROME: Total War has been revamped to mirror the intuitive design of the one found in MEDIEVAL II, featuring smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button allows for quick returns to the default view, making map management more efficient.

The Imperium Update is already available, so if you have ROME: Total War on your Android device, you can download it now through the Google Play Store. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, and don’t miss out on the enhanced gameplay experience they will offer.
