FFXIV Halts Housing Demolition Post-Relaunch
Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers. This action, affecting players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers, comes in response to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The company has not yet announced a date for resuming the auto-demolition process.
The suspension follows a previous moratorium, lifted just a day prior, and is intended to accommodate players potentially impacted by the wildfires and unable to log in to maintain their housing plots. Normally, unoccupied plots are subject to a 45-day demolition timer, designed to manage the limited housing availability within the game. This timer resets when the owner visits their property. However, Square Enix regularly implements temporary pauses in such instances of real-world disruptions.
This latest pause began on Thursday, January 9th, at 11:20 PM Eastern Time. While the previous pause (ending January 8th) was attributed to Hurricane Helene's aftermath, the current situation is directly linked to the California wildfires. Homeowners can still reset their timers to the full 45 days by logging in during this suspension.
The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the gaming world. Other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, have also experienced disruptions due to the fires. Square Enix has expressed its concern for those affected and will provide updates on the resumption of the auto-demolition timers as the situation evolves. The unexpected pause adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who have also recently benefited from a free login campaign.
