FFXIV Mobile Version Listed in China's Approved Games

A recent report from video game market research firm Niko Partners reveals a potential mobile adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV, a joint venture between Square Enix and Tencent, slated for release in China. This follows earlier, unconfirmed reports suggesting Tencent's involvement in the project.

FFXIV Mobile: Still Largely Unconfirmed

Niko Partners' report lists 15 games approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for release. Among them is a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, reportedly developed by Tencent. Other notable titles on the list include a mobile and PC version of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel's Snap and Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8.

While industry speculation points towards a standalone mobile MMORPG separate from the PC version, neither Square Enix nor Tencent have officially confirmed the project. Analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, citing industry sources, mentioned this possibility on X (formerly Twitter) on August 3rd.

This potential partnership aligns with Square Enix's stated May strategy of aggressively pursuing multi-platform releases for its major franchises, including Final Fantasy. Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market further strengthens this strategic move. The official confirmation remains eagerly awaited.
