Fossil Pokémon Given Modern Makeover by Skilled Creator
A Pokémon Sword and Shield enthusiast recently unveiled their imaginative take on the Galar region's Fossil Pokémon, showcasing their original forms rather than the game's fragmented versions. The fan art, shared on social media, garnered significant praise for its creative designs and well-considered type and ability combinations.
Fossil Pokémon have been a staple of the series since its inception. In Pokémon Red and Blue, players unearthed complete fossils, reviving Kabuto and Omanyte. However, Sword and Shield deviated from this tradition, presenting players with fragmented fossil remains of creatures resembling fish and birds. Combining these fragments with Cara Liss yielded Arctozolt, Arctovish, Dracozolt, or Dracovish.
Despite the absence of new Fossil Pokémon since Generation VIII, the creative spirit of the fanbase continues to thrive. Reddit user IridescentMirage crafted stunning artwork depicting their vision of Galar's original Fossil Pokémon: Lyzolt, Razovish, Dracosaurus, and Arctomaw. These designs incorporated unique type combinations, including Electric, Water, Dragon, and Ice, respectively, and were further enhanced with abilities such as Strong Jaw and Adaptability. Arctomaw, the most powerful of the quartet, boasted a remarkable base stat total of 560, with a formidable 150 in physical attack.
Fan Art Reimagines Galar's Ancient Pokémon
IridescentMirage's creation also introduced a novel "Primal" type, inspired by the Past Paradox Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and originating from a personal action RPG project. This Primal type grants effectiveness against Grass, Fire, Flying, Ground, and Electric types, while leaving the Pokémon vulnerable to Ice, Ghost, and Water attacks. The artwork sparked enthusiastic responses from fellow Pokémon fans, with many praising Lyzolt as a superior design to its in-game counterpart and expressing intrigue over the Primal type.
While the true forms of Galar's Fossil Pokémon remain shrouded in mystery, the artistic contributions of fans like IridescentMirage offer compelling interpretations, bridging the gap until the next generation reveals its ancient secrets. Only future installments will unveil the true nature of the Generation X Fossil Pokémon.
