Guillermo del Toro's lifelong fascination with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is almost as legendary as the monster itself. A recent Netflix preview showcased the director's highly anticipated adaptation, offering a glimpse into his decades-long journey to bring this classic tale to the screen. While a trailer remains elusive until summer, a first-look image of Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein was unveiled.

Del Toro, in a video message, confessed his deep-seated connection to the story, stating, "This film has been on my mind since I was a child – for 50 years. I’ve been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein." The video showcased a portion of his extensive Frankenstein collection, further emphasizing his dedication.

Limited footage was also revealed, depicting Isaac's Victor Frankenstein in a confrontation with Mia Goth, playing a wealthy aristocrat, and Jacob Elordi as the monster, described as having "long black hair, stitched-up gray skin, and a glint of red in his eyes." This footage, however, is not yet publicly available.

Del Toro poignantly summarized his profound connection to the project: "You see, over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. It doesn’t get more personal than this.” His unwavering commitment underscores the immense personal weight and extensive development behind Netflix's Frankenstein adaptation.
