Unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent developer of gaming accessories, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, hinting at a device larger than its predecessor, approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck.

CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed several significant details. The Joy-Con controllers now utilize magnetic attachments, employing a pin-release mechanism for detachment. Despite this change from the original Switch's sliding rails, Tsai assures users of secure gameplay. Furthermore, each Joy-Con incorporates an optical sensor, potentially enabling mouse-like functionality with a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images seemingly corroborate the presence of these sensors.

The Switch 2's increased size, while closer to the Steam Deck, still allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible for use. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remains currently unknown.
