Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

The latest update for Fallout 76 allows players to experience the game as a Ghoul. Bethesda announced on March 18 that Season 20, aptly named "The Ghoul Within," is now live. This update enriches the gameplay with a variety of ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to personalize your C.A.M.P.

Players can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification, unlocking a new area in the Savage Divide and meeting unique characters who aid in this transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a meter that, when filled, provides various boosts. At 0%, the meter drastically alters gameplay, granting "+150% Melee Damage" but reducing "Endurance by -5, Charisma by -99, Max HP by -30, Max AP by -20, Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy by -300%."

The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causes the player to emit a glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks," as Bethesda calls them.

With 28 perks to choose from and 2 new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls, players will have plenty of options. Note that Ghouls cannot benefit from Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistant Perks.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul becomes more manageable with the added Gherks and abilities. However, this transformation can make certain factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, hostile, potentially locking players out of specific questlines.

Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that enable Ghouls to access content otherwise barred to them. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, reverting to a human is possible through the Character Screen, though it's a one-way journey. To transform back into a Ghoul, players can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.

Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes

Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned resident of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost in the Season 20 update can accelerate your journey. For 1500 Atoms, this boost equips players with perks and enhancements, allowing immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.

The update also includes a range of bug fixes and balance adjustments, from accessibility improvements to combat and weapon damage tweaks. Bethesda also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen continuous improvements, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with 76% positive reviews. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
