GOG Resurrects Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 on PC

Apr 27,25

The beloved cult classics, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, have roared back to life with their re-release on PC through GOG, the CD Projekt-owned platform. These survival horror gems from the PlayStation era are now available DRM-free, preserving their original content under GOG's Preservation Program. Capcom originally launched Dino Crisis in 1999 on the PlayStation, followed by Dino Crisis 2 in 2000. Although Dino Crisis 3 hit the shelves as an Xbox exclusive in 2003, fans have been left longing for a new installment ever since.

Despite fervent fan demands for a new entry or an HD remake, Capcom has shown little interest. The release of Exoprimal in 2022, a multiplayer action game with dinosaurs, was perceived by many as the final blow to hopes for a Dino Crisis revival. Additionally, the series' creator, Shinji Mikami, remarked last August that the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise leaves little room for a Dino Crisis reboot or remake.

Previously, the PC ports of these first two Dino Crisis games were elusive and challenging to run on modern systems. GOG's initiative to bring these games back is thus a welcome development. GOG celebrated this revival by stating, "Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina’s iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself. The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."

These votes play a crucial role in demonstrating community interest to IP owners, helping GOG to bring these cherished games back to life on their platform.
