"GTA 5 Enhanced Edition: Worst User-Reviewed on Steam"

May 16,25

Rockstar's latest update to Grand Theft Auto 5, known as GTA 5 Enhanced, has not been well-received on Steam since its launch in early March. The game has been rated with a 'mixed' user review, with only 54% of the 19,772 reviews being positive. This is a stark contrast to the original GTA 5 on Steam, which, although now unlisted and unsearchable at Rockstar's request, boasts a 'very positive' rating.

In fact, GTA 5 Enhanced is currently the lowest-rated GTA title on Steam, even falling below Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, which has a 66% positive review rating.

GTA 5 Enhanced offers a free upgrade for PC players, including features that were previously exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of GTA Online. These features include access to the latest vehicles and performance upgrades at Hao’s Special Works, encounters with animals, and the ability to purchase a GTA+ Membership. Additionally, the update brings improved graphics and faster loading times. All existing PC players of GTA 5 can upgrade to this version for free and transfer their Story Mode and Online progress.

Several users have reported issues with account migration, with one player expressing frustration over being unable to transfer nearly 700 hours of gameplay, stating, "If you think I'm throwing away nearly 700 hours of gameplay on one character so that you can make a few more bucks off me, then you can lick my anal orifice clean."

Another player called the new version an "objective downgrade" from the original, preferring to stick with the legacy version until a new game is released.

Additional complaints include the inability to migrate accounts and unhelpful customer support, with one player unwilling to restart their progress in GTA Online for what they perceive as minor improvements.

Despite the backlash, GTA 5 Enhanced continues to be popular on Steam, achieving a peak of 187,059 concurrent players since its launch. However, these issues have raised concerns among PC gamers about the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on PC, especially given that GTA 6 is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025. A former Rockstar developer has addressed these concerns, urging PC gamers to trust the studio's plans.

In related news, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick has responded to concerns about the future of GTA Online post-GTA 6 launch, while Take-Two has initiated legal action against PlayerAuctions for allegedly selling unauthorized GTA 5 content. Additionally, Rockstar has acquired and renamed the developer of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, now known as Rockstar Australia.
