Harrison Ford Doesn't Care That Indiana Jones 5 Flopped, and Joined Marvel For a 'Good Time'

Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, simply stating, "s**t happens." He revealed his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was driven by a desire for a "good time."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Star Wars icon explained that despite his belief in the potential for another Indiana Jones chapter—a belief that led him to advocate for the film—"I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened," he said. The film's box office failure, estimated to be a $100 million loss, doesn't diminish his satisfaction with the project. "I’m still happy I made that movie," he affirmed.

This latest cinematic venture follows his transition to another iconic franchise: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ford joins the cast of Captain America: Brave New World, stepping into the shoes of the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, a role significantly expanded to include his transformation into the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his MCU involvement predated knowledge of this transformation, having not even seen a script for Brave New World before signing on. His motivation was purely enjoyment: "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time," he explained. "I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."

Captain America: Brave New World, slated for release on February 14th, marks one of the shorter MCU films to date. It features Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, replacing Chris Evans, and promises to introduce several deep-cut characters from Marvel comics, including The Leader, a character teased in The Incredible Hulk.
