Jason Isaacs, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, recently shared his thoughts on who should take over his iconic character in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter TV series. In an interview with Variety focused on his work in The White Lotus Season 3, Isaacs suggested Meryl Streep for the role.

"Meryl Streep," Isaacs told Variety, praising her versatility. "She can do anything, that woman. There's literally no limit to what she can do." Streep has previously showcased her ability to play male characters in the HBO miniseries "Angels in America," where she portrayed an elderly male rabbi among other roles. Given her range, Isaacs believes she could excel as Lucius Malfoy.

Despite his strong endorsement of Streep, Isaacs expressed that he wouldn't offer any advice to whoever ends up playing Lucius Malfoy. "I wouldn’t have any advice at all. Why would I bother?" he remarked. He expressed confidence in the casting decisions, noting that he knows some of the actors already involved and believes they will do a fantastic job.

Isaacs first portrayed Lucius Malfoy in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and continued to play the character through to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." As for the upcoming HBO series, the only confirmed casting at the time of this article's publication is John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, a role previously played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Rumors suggest that Black Mirror star Paapa Essiedu may be cast as Severus Snape, a role originally played by Alan Rickman, and Jessica Jones star Janet McTeer could portray Minerva McGonagall, originally played by Maggie Smith. However, these casting choices have not been officially confirmed.
