Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared to new heights, reaching over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has shattered its concurrent player record daily from February 4 to February 9.

With 1 million copies sold at launch, KCD2 is on track to approach 2 million sales as of this writing.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, which enhances immersion and enjoyment for players. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, the need for cleaning clothes and armor, and sword maintenance. KCD2 introduces new elements to further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players accumulate dirt and grime, eventually leading to a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here." Additionally, the game introduces "handgonnes," early firearms that were challenging to use and historically accurate. Bittner told PC Gamer, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."

KCD2's PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content to enhance the gaming experience.

Free updates scheduled for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out in Summer with "Brushes with Death," Autumn with "Legacy of the Forge," and Winter with "Mysteria Ecclesiae."
