Suikoden is back! Well, sort of. Konami and MYTHRIL have announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, set for free-to-play release later this year. While a release date remains unannounced, anticipation is high.

For the uninitiated, the Suikoden series, originally conceived by Yoshitaka Murayama and published by Konami since 1995, is a celebrated RPG series loosely based on the classic Chinese novel Water Margin. Known for its rich world of political intrigue, True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny, the series boasts 11 entries (including spin-offs), with the last main installment released in 2012. Instead of a direct sequel or full-fledged revival, Konami is delivering Suikoden STAR LEAP as a mobile game.

What Awaits?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while retaining the series’ signature element: the gathering of 108 heroes. The game embraces pixel art, preserving the classic Suikoden aesthetic. See for yourself:

The story centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes shaping the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, experiences a sudden shift in fortune following a successful hunt when his village is attacked. This sets him on a quest for peace alongside Hisui (his servant with a mysterious emotional suppression), Shirin (his childhood friend, driven by justice), and Shapur (a former general turned butler).

While excitement is palpable, some community members express reservations. Longtime Suikoden fans have eagerly awaited a proper continuation, and the announcement of STAR LEAP, a gacha game, has met with mixed reactions.

Further details will emerge closer to the game's launch. Until then, visit the official website for the latest updates.
