Cancelled Transformers Game: Leaked Gameplay Footage Emerges

Recently cancelled by Splash Damage, gameplay footage of the co-op Transformers: Reactivate has re-emerged online. Announced in 2022, this Hasbro-backed title promised a multiplayer experience featuring Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat to Earth.

Despite the 2022 announcement at The Game Awards, limited gameplay was publicly shown, leading to speculation before the official cancellation. Splash Damage cited a shift in focus to other projects, potentially resulting in staff reductions.

Following the cancellation, leaked footage from a 2020 build surfaced. This clip showcases Bumblebee navigating a destroyed cityscape, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes, and utilizing various weapons. The gameplay bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but pits Bumblebee against "the Legion," an alien force serving as Reactivate's primary antagonists.

Transformers: Reactivate Gameplay Footage: A Closer Look

Despite some unfinished textures, the leaked footage demonstrates a polished aesthetic, including environmental destruction. The clip concludes with a silent, incomplete cutscene depicting Bumblebee emerging from a portal in a ravaged New York City, communicating with an ally named Devin regarding the Legion's assault.

Numerous other leaks, dating back to 2020, predate the official announcement and subsequent cancellation. While Transformers: Reactivate will remain unplayed, the leaked footage offers a glimpse into Splash Damage's ambitious, yet ultimately unsuccessful, multiplayer Transformers project.
