Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment are teaming up to bring the popular trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, to the big and small screens. This collaborative effort will encompass both movies and television series, with the film adaptation taking precedence.

Legendary Entertainment, known for producing successful franchises like Dune, the Godzilla films (including Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu, will oversee the project. Their chairman of worldwide production emphasized their commitment to carefully developing beloved intellectual property, highlighting Magic: The Gathering's suitability for this approach.

PlayThe relationship between this new Legendary project and the previously announced Netflix animated Magic: The Gathering series remains unclear. The report suggests they may be separate entities, although a shift in plans could potentially integrate the animated series into this larger, shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, originally launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has evolved into a globally recognized and highly successful trading card game. Its parent company, Wizards of the Coast, became part of the Hasbro family in 1999.

This venture marks another step for Hasbro in adapting its extensive portfolio of properties into film and television. Their track record includes adaptations of G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons, with additional projects currently underway, such as new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and even a Beyblade film.
