During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we were treated to an in-depth look at the highly anticipated Free Roam mode, shedding light on its multiplayer capabilities and the exciting activities players can engage in within Mario Kart World's expansive environment.

PlayAlthough we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of Free Roam mode and its features. This innovative mode allows players to explore a vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map freely. Unlike previous Mario Kart titles, where race tracks were isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open world, enabling seamless transitions between tracks and exploration of the surrounding areas.

In Free Roam mode, when you're not competing in races, you can embark on a mini-adventure. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery for now. Additionally, P-Switches are scattered throughout the map, which, when activated, trigger small challenges like collecting blue coins.

Moreover, Free Roam mode introduces a Photo Mode, allowing players to capture memorable moments of their racers in various poses and angles at any time. This mode isn't limited to solo play; you can join friends to explore the world together, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply enjoy each other's company. Free Roam supports up to four players on the same system via split-screen, and up to eight players total through local wireless play, with two players per system.

The Mario Kart World Direct also unveiled a plethora of other exciting details, including new characters, courses, and game modes. To stay updated on all the announcements, you can find more information right here.
