Mario Movie Sequel Domain Names Spotted Ahead of Nintendo Direct

Mar 30,26

With just hours left before today’s major Nintendo Direct broadcast, fans have uncovered domain name registrations pointing to the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel — potentially revealing its title.

Multiple registrations by NBC Universal reference Super Mario Galaxy, including supermariogalaxy.movie, the French supermariogalaxy-lefilm.com, and the Spanish supermariogalaxy-lapelicula.com. All three were registered on September 10.

The beloved Wii platformer originally launched on the Wii and introduced space princess Rosalina, sparking curiosity about Princess Peach’s true origins — a detail briefly hinted at in the original Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Could the yet-untitled Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel be named Super Mario Galaxy? These domain registrations have convinced many fans, though uncertainty still lingers.

Last night, internal website addresses featuring the title "Super Mario Bros. 2" were discovered on Universal Pictures’ site. Then there’s the fact that Universal briefly referred to the film as "Super Mario World" in a press release quickly removed in May.

Still, the timing of these domain registrations has raised eyebrows, with fans now confident an announcement will be made during today’s Nintendo Direct.

The original Super Mario Bros. game is approaching its 40th anniversary, and there’s growing anticipation that Nintendo will mark the milestone with a wave of announcements — much like it did for the 35th anniversary five years ago.

Interestingly, if the movie is indeed titled Super Mario Galaxy, it won’t be the first time the name has surfaced online. Earlier this year, images of Old Spice deodorant cans labeled “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” appeared online, sparking debate over their authenticity. Fans claimed to have found related Mario-themed trademarks at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, including “Space Mischief,” “Cosmic Quest,” and “Brooklyn Bounce.”

Back then, fans noted the cans featured previously unseen artwork of Luigi and Yoshi, though the leak couldn’t be fully confirmed. Only time will tell if this aligns with Universal’s final decision on the movie’s name.

Regardless of its title, the Nintendo and Universal Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026. Today’s Nintendo Direct, meanwhile, will stream at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK time — and IGN will be covering it live.
