Marvel Rivals is launching a major Spring Festival event this Thursday! Get ready for a free Star-Lord costume and a brand-new game mode: Clash of Dancing Lions.

In this 3v3 mode, teams compete to score a ball in the opposing goal. While the gameplay might evoke comparisons to Rocket League, it shares a stronger resemblance to Overwatch's Lucioball – a similar mode that also drew inspiration from Rocket League.

This comparison is particularly interesting given Marvel Rivals' current trajectory. The game has arguably surpassed Overwatch in popularity and needs to establish a unique identity to differentiate itself from its Blizzard counterpart. The choice to feature a strikingly similar game mode for its first major event is therefore noteworthy. While Overwatch's Lucioball had an Olympic Games theme, Marvel Rivals' version boasts a distinct Chinese New Year atmosphere.
