Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown

Mar 04,25

Despite a Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players continue to risk account bans by using mods. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized characters, transforming Iron Man into Vegeta, Mantis into a goth, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.

NetEase, the developer, implemented asset hash checking to restrict mods, explicitly stating in their terms of service and to IGN that mods, cheats, and unauthorized third-party software are prohibited. Warnings about potential bans were issued, yet a workaround is now circulating.

Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautions users about the risk of bans, noting that while no permanent bans are known, NetEase could still take action. New mods, such as one transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, have already accumulated thousands of downloads.

A tweet from @RivalsLeaks highlights the continued use of mods despite the increased difficulty. The lack of confirmed bans hasn't stopped NetEase from reiterating their stance. The developer likely wants to prevent lost revenue from skin sales, protect intellectual property, and maintain game balance and performance. Prafit even suggests the workaround requires a high-performance PC.

For those interested in official game information, the Season 1 patch notes, win rates, and available codes are readily accessible. A community tier list allows players to vote on the strongest characters. The future of modding in Marvel Rivals, however, remains uncertain.
