Marvel Comics announces a May 2025 relaunch of its flagship Star Wars comic series. The new storyline unfolds after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, focusing on Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they establish the New Republic and strive to restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, following his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens the new volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu creating the cover art for the debut issue.

Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars depicts the New Republic's struggle to solidify its authority. The nascent government faces challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other adversaries exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're launching into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will involve new galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with the unexpected. These stories will be action-packed, featuring character moments fans expect, with twists on the known galaxy. We've designed it for easy entry, regardless of the issue you start with."

Noto added, "Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and new characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life! It's exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create fresh looks while referencing the original actors to maintain the feel of the timeline."

Star Wars #1 arrives on May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
