Rey Dau is the first true dragon you’ll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. As an electric-element monster, it's naturally immune to lightning attacks. However, it shows strong weaknesses to Water and Ice damage. Its head is the prime target with 4-star vulnerability, followed closely by the wings at 3 stars.

Avoid focusing too much on the torso—it's quite durable. If the head proves difficult to hit consistently, aim for the tail instead. Legs are heavily armored, so they’re not ideal targets unless you're using them for positioning.

When it comes to status effects, prioritize Poison, Sleep, or Blastblight over Stun or Paralysis, which are less effective. Since Rey Dau resists paralysis and uses lightning attacks frequently, those ailments won’t give you much of an edge.

Use a Flash Pod

A great way to gain the upper hand is by using a **Flash Pod**. It temporarily stuns Rey Dau, giving you a window to land heavy hits. Especially after dodging one of its lightning attacks, try striking its horns while in Focus Mode—this lets you see weak points glowing red for better targeting.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

Survivability is key during this fight. Equip armor that boosts elemental resistance. The **Hope Armor Set** is highly recommended thanks to its **Divine Blessing** skill, which reduces incoming damage. It also grants resistance to both Lightning and Fire, making it perfect for battling Rey Dau.

Don’t forget to prepare with a meal that enhances elemental defense. If dodging feels tricky, position yourself near the monster’s legs—Rey Dau primarily attacks forward and backward, so staying close here can reduce incoming damage.

Pay Attention to the Environment

During the fight, Rey Dau often takes flight and relocates across the battlefield. In open areas like the Windward Plains, look for **Vine Traps** on lone trees to momentarily stun the beast. Be cautious when it returns to its nest—this area introduces a follow-up lightning attack that can quickly turn deadly if you're not careful.

Stay patient, watch your surroundings, and use terrain advantages wisely to avoid being caught off guard.

Defeating Rey Dau isn't the only way to earn rewards—you can also capture it. To do this, reduce its health until the skull icon appears on your minimap. At this point, deploy a trap to immobilize the monster.

Since Rey Dau absorbs electricity, Shock Traps are ineffective. Instead, use a Pitfall Trap, then follow up with a Tranquilizer to ensure the capture succeeds. You only have a short time window, so be ready with your tools and positioned correctly.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
